MFA Thesis

The Windows of Antiquity is my Master of Arts creative thesis. The Windows of Antiquity are literal windows, beneath which a painted rendering of a photograph lies. These windows channel the feeling of a single moment in time in a lost location, in this case Ancient Rome. I use my art to explore my fascination with the history of Rome, the Eternal City, through its leaders, its people, and its fascinating bloodshed, from Nero to Vespasian. What you see here is the result of that exploration.

I traveled to Rome in 2011 and brought back images of these icons, each symbolizing an important element of Roman history. Creating The Windows of Antiquity became a way for me to re walk the streets of Rome, a city I love.
